Rakuten Viber, a top communication app known for secure and private messaging, has earned the SOC 2 Type II certification.
The SOC 2 is a standard for checking how well a company protects customer data. It was created by the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts (AICPA) and ensures security, availability, confidentiality, and privacy.
The audit, done by Ernst & Young, a big professional services firm, confirmed that Rakuten security practices, policies, procedures, and operations meet SOC 2 standards.
Liad Shnell, VP Engineering and Chief Information Security Officer, said, “Getting the SOC 2 Type II certification is a big achievement for us. It shows our strong commitment to keeping our users’ information safe and private. This certification proves that we take information security seriously and always aim to protect the data our users trust us with. We will keep focusing on confidentiality and integrity, providing a secure and reliable messaging platform for everyone.”
Besides getting SOC 2 certified, Rakuten Viber is improving its system by adding more backups and increasing platform monitoring. In 2016, Viber was one of the first major messaging apps to use end-to-end encryption for all private chats and video calls.
